During the regular meeting on March 18, 2025, Council adopted a Street Sweeping Program.  With the Town’s current resources, which include relatively new equipment, it is not possible to sweep every street annually because it is time-consuming.  Given this constraint, Council established a schedule that outlines the streets that will receive annual attention, with the rest being addressed once every three years under normal circumstances.  To see the Street Sweeping Program, click on the link below.

With funding from the Government of Canada under the New Horizons for Seniors Program, the Town is launching a seniors' (55 plus) yoga and water aerobics program.  The program will last six weeks, beginning in April 2025, and will include two classes each week.  If you're interested in participating, complete the online registration form (link below) by March 28, 2025.  There is space for 10 seniors - if more register, the Town will conduct a random draw.

Municipal Plan Amendment No. 15, 2025, and Development Regulations Amendment No. 17, 2025: Council Removes the Land on Riverside Drive
On February 21, 2025, the Bishop’s Falls Town Council launched an initial public consultation regarding Municipal Plan Amendment No. 15, 2025, and Development Regulations Amendment No. 17, 2025, which propose the creation of the “Commercial Tourism Zone” that would be applied to land on Riverside Drive (in front of the Public Works Depot) and Station Road (east of the boat launch). As of the deadline on March 7, 2025, at noon, the Town received 126 objections, with 126 (100%) objecting to Riverside Drive and 23 (18%) opposed to Station Road.
The initial consultation process for municipal plan/development regulations amendments is designed to provide residents with an opportunity to share their views with Council before any additional steps are taken under the Urban and Rural Planning Act. It is clear, when it comes to the land on Riverside Drive, that the community does not support commercial development, and Council has heard those concerns clearly. It appreciates the views and feedback because it results in better policy decisions. Consequently, during a special meeting on March 7, 2025, Council resolved to exclude the land on Riverside Drive from Municipal Plan Amendment No. 15, 2025, and Development Regulations Amendment No. 17, 2025. The former and latter will proceed with Station Road only.
Since 2017, with support from ACOA and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, Council has invested over $2,500,000 in tourism assets, including the Fallsview Lookout, Trestleview Park, Fallsview Park boat launch, and the Station Road boat launch. These assets were developed to drive commercial activity, and Council must continue to pursue policies and projects that support that goal. The land on Station Road, which is adjacent to the boat launch, is strategically located on the Exploits River and presents opportunities for commercial tourism development. For this reason, Council will continue the process under the Urban and Rural Planning Act to rezone it accordingly.
Residents opposing the rezoning on Station Road will have another opportunity to object during the public hearing, which will be scheduled after the Department of Municipal and Provincial Affairs reviews the amendment in accordance with section 15 of the Urban and Rural Planning Act.
Council very much appreciates the feedback from residents.

Waterline Flushing 2024

As part of its annual maintenance program, on Monday, May 27, 2024, the Public Works Department will begin flushing waterlines and exercising water valves throughout the community.  This work will conclude on or before Friday, June 7, 2024 (weekend excluded).  Residents may experience water discolouration and/or low pressure during this time.  The Town apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.

Construction Update – May 14, 2024

On Monday, May 13, 2024, the Public Works Department began replacing a culvert that crosses Main Street immediately east of Tim-Br Mart.  The Department anticipates this project will be completed by Friday, May 17, 2024, rather than Wednesday, May 15, 2024.  Main Street (around civic addresses 97 and 91) will be impassable during construction; therefore, traffic diversions and detours are established at the following control points:

(1) Beaumont Heights/Main Street: Commercial traffic will be rerouted via Station Road.

(2) REWA Road/Main Street:  Residential traffic will be rerouted via REWA Road and Greenridge Road.

(3) Construction Site (Tim-Br Mart-Lions Club area): Residential traffic will be rerouted via the Lions Club parking lot.

(4) West-End Overpass: Commercial traffic will be rerouted east via the TCH on-ramp.

Please see the attached diagrams.

Commercial and residential vehicles will be permitted beyond the control points if they reside or have a business purpose in the area; however, there will be no thoroughfare between 97 Main Street and 91 Main Street (the construction area).
